Our Story

Learn about Drive Commander's leadership, founded after a serious distracted driving incident, and its mission to improve road safety through prevention-focused technology, advocacy, training, and cultural responsibility.

Why Drive Commander Exists

Nick Evans’ Story

Nick Evans is the MD of Drive Commander and has been in that position for over ten years.

The story behind setting up the company and subsequent drive for better road safety, especially around distracted driving, was due to an incident in which Nick's son and his mother were involved on the M1/M18 junction, where a HGV hit the vehicle they were in, spun around and pushed across several lanes of traffic and onto the opposite carriageway.

Both of them, fortunately, got out with no serious injuries but have apparent and lasting memories of the incident.

It later emerged that the HGV driver was using his phone at the time of the incident and was distracted. Since then, there have been countless more incidents and preventable deaths due to distracted driving, and the statistics are rising year on year.

Nick has made it his mission to promote safe driving standards through technology, with the Drive Commander system that focuses on prevention rather than evidence-gathering after an incident. Nick is a member of PACTS, BRAKE and RoadPeace.

Junior's Story

Junior Sullivan is working with Nick on a consultancy basis.

Junior is a serving Staff Sergeant and Qualified Gunnery Instructor (QGI) in the Royal Artillery, with over 15 years' experience in training and leadership. After losing both his parents in 2021 to a fatal incident involving a distracted HGV driver, he became dedicated to educating others about the dangers of using mobile phones while driving.

As a husband and father of two, he is passionate about making our roads safer for everyone. Through the Military, Junior delivers awareness courses, encourages discussion and challenges policies.

Junior is committed to advocating for a culture where we all take responsibility, by not only avoiding distractions ourselves, but also challenging unsafe behaviours in others. Together, he believes we all can be the difference that makes a difference.
